Virginia Tech, and Principal Investigator, Mitzi Vernon, were awarded a grant, titled Planning Phoebe's Field, from the Informal Science Education division at the National Science Foundation. Co-Principal Investigators included Katherine Cennamo, Michael Ermann, Steve Harrison, and Margarita McGrath. Students from multiple disciplines at Virginia Tech and Arizona State University were key developers. The $75,000 grant sponsored the planning of a traveling exhibition based on book one of the interCONNECTIONS series, Phoebe's Field.
