MICHAEL ERMANN (Co-PI)
Michael Ermann is an associate professor at Virginia Tech with a background in architecture and acoustics. Professor Ermann has authored or co-authored seven journal papers in the field of acoustics, and presented more than a dozen papers on the topic—many of them invited. He currently is coauthoring the third edition of Architectural Acoustics, which has been for decades the most widely used textbook in the field. At Virginia Tech, Professor Ermann is the creator and director of the college’s Architectural Acoustics Laboratory. He teaches Advanced Architectural Acoustics, Environmental Building Systems, and Architectural Design—and for his teaching, he was awarded the School of Architecture + Design’s first-ever Lecture/Seminar Course Teaching Award in 2005. Professor Ermann sits on the board of the North Carolina Chapter of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) and is a member of the national ASA Technical Committee on Architectural Acoustics.
Prior to joining the VT faculty Mr. Ermann was an acoustical consultant at Artec in New York and Siebein Associates in Gainesville, Florida. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Tulane University and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Florida. At Florida, he received the college-wide Gerber Memorial Scholarship for architecture and the nation-wide Robert Bradford Newman Award for architectural acoustics.
